The Brussels Low Line project
A linear urban park in the pedestrian zone of the historical centre of Brussels as a motor for urban regeneration
(Cette conférence est surtout pour les étudiants et quelques invités / intéressés par le développement urbain / piétonnier etc)
Marc Appelmans studied landscape architecture and urban planning in Brussels, Belgium. He specialized also in landscape conservation in Munich, Germany, and art history at the ASSA (INSEAD) in Fontainebleau, France. During his training, he has been deeply influenced by the ‘Dutch’ way of tackling large landscaping projects where studies were always worked on with multidisciplinary teams associating landscape architects and urban planners, sociologists, biologists, traffic engineers and planners of all kind.
Nowadays he works on consultancy commissions at SumProject+SumResearch dealing with long term planning and various masterplans ao a coastal development around a new marina, planning of urban fringes, the development of urban agriculture, management plans for historical sites (UNESCO), neighbourhood regeneration programmes in deprived urban areas…).
Recent commissions concern also a lot of urban design projects like the integration of the pedestrian zone in the urban fabric in Brussels, the integration of new tramlines in the urban system, public squares etc.
2. Palestra do Arquiteto Paisagista Erik Dhont às 17:00 no ISA/ULisboa
Heritage and Evolution
CONFERENCE OUVERTE A TOUS
Erik Dhont is a Landscape Architect based in Brussels, Belgium. His portfolio includes many realizations such as gardens, farmyards, urban development projects and Landscape restorations, in Belgium, Switzerland, France, Germany, California and the Azores. Erik Dhont sees Garden Design as a form of art, and he embraces it with imagination in order to give the clients a place to dream. Over the years Erik Dhont has developed a style that remains personal, distinctive and instantly recognizable. Organic shapes on paper are translated into real sculptural forms which gain their patina as time goes by and the garden matures. It is this changing sense of rhythm that flows between days, seasons and periods of life, that Dhont aims to highlight in his design.
Palestra organizada pelas professoras doutoras Cristina Castel-Branco e Sónia Talhé Azambuja, docentes de Arquitetura Paisagista do ISA/ULisboa.
